I help divorcing parents to learn the skills of a good coparenting relationship”
About This Practice
I work mainly with divorce and remarriage. In the divorce process I work with parents helping them to coparent effectively so they can have a binuclear postdivorce family, a family that has two households.. Sometimes divorce involves helping parents grieve their past marriage so they can move on. During the divorce process I often see the whole family so children and parents can talk openly with each other. I also will see extended family, such as the parents of the divorcing couple, in order to help them all communicate. My major focus is to help divorcing parents limit the losses of family even as they are separating.
I often see re-coupled families and help them to establish appropriate boundaries . Remarriage families are complex, often with each partner bringing in children from their prior marriages. Learning how to stepparent in this new family is difficult and complicated. I help the family to understand the dynamics of re-coupling in order to re-work this new family so that it meets the needs of all.
