Celebrating 40 years of program excellence at annual conferences
AFTA has been hosting an annual meeting and conference for the past 40 years. The conference offers members and nonmembers alike the opportunity to exchange ideas, plan collaborative projects, and share contributions to the field. The Academy’s Interest Groups are prominently featured at the conference, and specialists from other fields are often invited to the Interest Groups for cross-fertilization of new ideas. Members are encouraged to keep in touch with their Interest Groups during the year between Meetings and to develop new Interest Groups as a way of enriching and broadening the scope of our knowledge.
Other activities at the Annual Meeting and Conference include: topic-focused plenary sessions; addresses by distinguished speakers from family therapy and allied fields; concurrent presentations; open forums for broad issues such as family policy, diversity, ethics, and credentialing; group dialogue sessions on gender and diversity issues; awards to outstanding professionals within the family therapy field; business and Board meetings; and social time for building networks with peers from across the country.
Clinical Research Conference
Periodically, the Academy hosts a Clinical Research Conference which offers an opportunity for practitioners and research investigators to collaboratively address subjects of mutual interest.
Often, the Academy offers a pre-conference symposium in which a theme of current importance is addressed. Symposiums are designed for and open to all health professionals, including Academy members.
