Join us for our 42nd Annual
Meeting and Open Conference
in Alexandria, VA
June 24-27, 2020

Hosted at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town Hotel

After careful consideration from AFTA’s Executive Committee, Board of Directors and Central Office regarding the health and safety of our esteemed membership, we have made the difficult decision to cancel AFTA’s 42nd Annual Meeting and 9th Open Conference that was scheduled to take place in Alexandria, Virginia on June 24-27, 2020.

Given the growing concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to navigate through such an urgent global situation. We stand with the WHO and CDC as well as other health and safety teams and will adhere to their recommendation of limiting large gatherings. We are saddened that we are unable to hold this event for our community. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.

We cannot express in words our deep appreciation and gratitude to Blanca Lugo and Bryan Doster for their time and attention to #AFTA2020. Thank you, Blanca and Bryan, for all of your work. We will work together and identify new and different ways to bring your vision to the AFTA community.

A special thanks to those who agreed to challenge our community to examine the complexity of politics and systems: Kiran Arora, our esteemed keynote speaker; our plenary panelists and speakers, Gonzalo Bacigalupe, Celia Falicov, Paulette Hines, and Ramon Rojano and Kitty LaPerriere, Laurel Salmon and Norbert Wetzel, and Leah Qusba and Vic Barrett; and to all our brief presentation speakers.

We also want to acknowledge and congratulate our 2020 Awardees: Laurence Kirmayer, Eve Lipchik, Gonzalo Bacigalupe, Douglas Breunlin,
Elijah C. Nealy and Ottar Ness.

The EC and Board are setting up a series of planning meetings to identify ways for us to stay connected and to honor and hear from the conference speakers and presenters. We will inform you of these options in the coming weeks and months.

The AFTA Office will be reaching out to advertisers and attendees to issue refunds.
Again, we deeply regret this decision, but we believe it is the right response for our membership. We look forward to connecting with each of you in the near future.
