Biography
Kyle D. Killian, Ph.D., LMFT is Core Faculty in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. A licensed couple and family therapist and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Dr. Killian has 72 publications on immigrant, refugee, and multiracial families, intercultural couples, vicarious resilience and professional self care, and emotional intelligence. His books include Interracial Couples, Intimacy and Therapy: Crossing Racial Borders (Columbia University Press, 2013), Intercultural Couples: Exploring Diversity in Intimate Relationships (Routledge, 2008), and Time, Temporality and Violence in International Relations (Routledge, 2016). A member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Feminist Family Therapy and Traumatology, Dr. Killian enjoys teaching family therapy theories and couples and sex therapy, creating measures of vicarious resilience, emotional intelligence, post-traumatic stress, cultural assumptions and beliefs, and critical thinking, and writing film analyses. He has delivered 80 presentations at national and international professional meetings, including the American Family Therapy Academy, AAMFT, and the International Studies Association. Dr. Killian is a co-Founder of Global Change Institute, Nicosia, Cyprus, a non-governmental organization that provides education and training for professionals and advocacy for immigrants and migrant workers. He is married to a Greek Cypriot and they have two trilingual sons.
